IMPACTING U.S. POLICY WITH AN EXECUTIVE SPEAKING TOUR

Back to Our Results

The United States banned crude oil exports in 1975, in a time when domestic energy resources were scarce. Since then, the U.S. energy landscape has changed dramatically as the Shale Revolution and U.S. Energy Renaissance have significantly increased domestic energy supply.

In 2015, ConocoPhillips emerged as a vocal advocate for lifting the outdated ban. The company chose to use its Power in Cooperation executive speaking program – managed and executed by Three Box – as a platform for change.

BUILD

BUILD

Three Box collaborated with ConocoPhillips’ senior leadership team to revamp the company’s executive speaking platform to universally focus on crude oil exports as the singular topic for a new, national PowerInCooperation initiative. We researched the top speaking forums attracting high-caliber regional and national leaders viewed as key to addressing the outdated EPCA. Corporate leaders identified executives with the most relevant experience and command of subjects central to the embargo and to a change in the export landscape. ConocoPhillips and Three Box collaborated on messages that compiled facts, dispelled rumors and delivered a rational position for a new national crude export policy.

The Three Box team facilitated senior-level keynote and panel presentations for ConocoPhillips at the
following venues:

  • Council on Foreign Relations (New York, NY )

  • Chief Executives Club of Boston (Boston, MA)

  • Stanford University National Gas Initiative (Palo Alto, CA)

  • Kellogg Energy Conference, Northwestern University (Chicago, IL)

  • MIT Energy Conference (Boston, MA)

  • University of Colorado Global Energy Management (Denver, CO)

  • Hart Energy DUG Eagle Ford Conference (San Antonio, TX)

These speaking opportunities yielded valuable interactions with decision makers, as well as media coverage in national publications. In early December 2015, Congress lifted the ban, and ConocoPhillips became the first American company to export crude oil in 40 years.
